I'm guessing this may be Carney soothing and stroking someone's ego without much to show since I also guess that net profits would be quite small compared to the construction costs that Canada paid. In the end, trump may get nothing, hopefully, again. Carney's a sharp cookie.
It's no surprise that Trump will pocket MONEY from the bridge. He has been demanding MONEY from the bridge for months. One other thing I noticed in that report: the new bridge will charge *market* rates. Months ago, the local Detroit media was reporting proposed rates that were significantly lower than those charged at the old bridge. By requiring the new bridge to charge "market" ie the same as the old bridge, the owner's of the old bridge are guaranteed their profits per vehicle, and Trump pockets a bigger payout from the new bridge. The new bridge still offers superior access on the Canadian side: a newly built parkway that connects with 401, vs winding through downtown Windsor streets for the old bridge.
We do realize, that Trump is setting the new baseline for Presidential behavior. Future candidates will be attracted to the office, not for Commie motives like "service", but the prospect of stealing, literally, Billions per year.
