The week's question
In March 2025, in the thread "Re: OT, out", Umm asked the members: "Do you think it is because America is made up of magical soil that makes businesses based in America magically profitable?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

Criminal President Tries to Turn Regular Americans Into Criminals
But we don’t have his kind of impunity.

/snip to the conclusion.

He’s spent his whole adult life defrauding people and organizations, and committing crimes. When he gets called to account, he pays to settle as just the cost of doing criminal business. He was saved from spending the rest of his life in federal prison by a Supreme Court majority made by three of his own appointees, who also granted him presumptive immunity from almost any crime he commits in office. He has now put his personal lawyer in charge of the Justice Department just to make doubly sure he can behave in a criminal way with total impunity.

At this point, he feels so invulnerable that he has no compunction about asking his own supporters to cheat in the midterm elections.

He is corrupting millions of Americans and trying to get them to adopt his own sense of personal ethics. But ordinary citizens who commit election fraud don’t have hundreds of thousands of dollars for lawyers and settlements. The Supreme Court hasn’t give them immunity. And the Justice Department is not in their pocket.

Most ordinary citizens are not inclined to commit crimes. Now their president is trying to get them not just to overlook his criminal nature but to adopt his criminal nature.

They better hope he uses his pardon power to save them from a future Justice Department that isn’t corrupted.
