Having been in Europe, I can attest that TIPs are not expected. Though, those that deal with Americans a lot know that we tend to do that, and I'm sure they don't mind the extra cash. But most of the time, they don't even offer you the option. And, as stated in this video, some cultures are genuinely offended if you offer a TIP (e.g. Japan).

There should be one federal minimum wage, whether you're a TIPped employee or not. I have long thought this, not just because of recent discussions of minimum wage.

I found it both amusing, and offensive, that an automated kiosk with no human present was asking for a TIP. Really?? I'm not TIPping a robot.
