If our democracy survives (not a guarantee), Congress during the next sane administration should set about limiting the power of the Executive to engage in such purges. Sure, they get to pick their Cabinet. But purging the military and civil service should NOT be an option. Both were meritocracies. If we can't get that back, we'll go the way of every other regime that purges "disloyal" personnel.
