Trump Administration Moves to Gut a Core Endangered Species Protection
The administration is quietly moving to strip a core protection of the Endangered Species Act, according to an internal memo obtained by The New York Times.
An internal memo reinterprets the law so that only the intentional killing of animals, not collateral harm, is illegal.
So, of course, no killing will ever be 'intentional'.
In Utah where I live they used to require a permit to hunt mountain lions and had a theoretical upper limit on the take. That limit was ridiculously high even though the state had not good estimate of the number of mountains lions in the state. Now there is no limit at all. The livestock industry controls the state game board and they would prefer to eliminate mountains lions from the state enitirely.
Season and license rules for mountain lions:
Open 12 months a year (year-round).
Bag Limit: There is no bag limit or requirement for a separate limited-entry permit for general units.
License Needed: A valid Utah hunting or combination license is required.
