We don't have that situation here. There are several, maybe a flock, of competing AI models. Will they fight among themselves for domination, the way meatbags do?
We tend to think of AI as the handful of consumer oriented LLMs that are offered to us publicly. There are actually thousands of them, mostly hidden from view, which are based on an open source foundation and trained for a variety of purposes. It’s extremely naive to think that everyone developing such a model is taking any measures at all to prevent it from “going rogue” and that there aren’t any developers with malevolent intent. I’m sure there are people trying to use AI to infect all of our personal computers, to shut down the electrical grid, to empty all our bank accounts, to spread a biological weapon, etc. Any one of those could destroy society as we know it, intentionally or not. Whether it’s the AI system itself, or the people behind it, causing the destruction doesn’t really matter.
