There are six main parts of the Lost Cause myth, the first and most important of which is that secession had little or nothing to do with the institution of slavery.


Such utter bullshit! And anyone who reads the history of the era has to know this. But the lie that the Civil War was only about states rights has been repeated endlessly. And I've had people tell me that if the war had not occurred slavery would have disappeared (magically?) peacefully. BS. The 'chivalry' (landed, slave-holding plantation owners) of the south were committed to slavery with every fiber of their being.
