With the ads they’ve run and the recruitment strategies they’ve launched, sociopaths are already self-selecting themselves for the job.

I don't know. The pay and the signing bonus can attract some decent people in tight situations, but a $50k signing bonus indicates trouble attracting people.
I couldn't do it, but I'm a little different. I see the Spanish as one of the great civilizations of all time, and I also met Mayans in Guatemala and Mexico at 16 and was very impressed. The Mayans could understand me without language. It also helped that they looked intelligent. So they were intelligent and they looked intelligent. Plenty of people see non-whites as lowly.

I agree, that is a life-changing amount of money for people stuck and sinking. Prices rising rising rising, employment shrinking fast, social services slashed and burned.
I heard audio interviews with people outside one of the recruiting events. You could tell some of them were conflicted about doing the work, but were basically unable to pass up the money. Some former military washed up into Trump's big beautiful zombie economy. Some whose government service and work toward retirement had been destroyed by DOGE's wanton elimination of their jobs. A few true believers who heard Fox News and nodded.
And then you will have some people such as those we have seen on videos popping up far and wide, bullying, pepper-spraying, zip-tying children, dehumanizing people of color, etc. Natural sadists welcomed by a nihilistic political cult.

The liberation of Paris in 1944 sparked an immediate popular program of retribution against Nazi collaborators. People were hung from lampposts. Women’s heads were shaved. It was not a good time or place to be labeled a Nazi collaborator.
The more ICE breaks down doors without warrants and drags people naked out of houses and apartments, the more severe will be the backlash when this regime is ended.
I’m not advocating such behavior. I’m only pointing to what happens to those who choose the path of collaboration with an evil regime.
