You wake up and suddenly realize the protestors are organizing themselves, communicating with one another and sending out warnings about where ICE was striking next, and you wonder what communist cabal taught them such skillz?
I’m sure the British wondered the same when they discovered they’d been outfoxed by colonists who hung lanterns in the steeple of Boston’s Old North Church. Where did they get these skillz?.
Pamphlets appearing, educational, subversive
pamphlets appearing, written by the likes of Thomas Payne “On Tyranny”.
Organizing to resist tyranny is in Our DNA, Dope- as American as Paul Revere and apple pie.
B-but those whistles! They blow them whenever ICE shows up. Yup, they certainly do…. And they borrowed that one from neighborhood watch programs like Whistle Stop, that was active in Chicago during the seventies when I was there.
If you were outside and saw a mugging or other crime, and you were a safe distance away, you blew your whistle. If you were inside and heard a whistle, you called the police and then went into the street.
I once heard a whistle, raced down the stairs, and into the street, and found dozens, literally dozens of my neighbors also in the street, some carrying baseball bats.
That poor criminal who attempted to mug a woman was never so glad as when the police showed up to escort him from the dead end alleyway in which we’d trapped him.
The technique is easily translated into a program of blowing your whistle when you see an ICE truck. At the last meeting I went to a week ago, they passed out whistles…
Ah- but all those fancy skillz, electronic comms etc etc. where did they come from?
There are protest movements all over the world, including some that you most likely support. You don’t think Americans can’t learn from them?
Since Dawes & Revere- American as apple pie- that old “can-do” spirit of intelligence, community, independence and adaptability- qualities that made this country great.
On display as America organizes to oppose the depredations of ICE.
