The Associated Press reported that government prosecutors told a judge that the U.S. plans to deport Kilmar Abrego Garcia to a country other than El Salvador after he is released from a Tennessee jail.

Abigail Jackson, Deputy Press Secretary at the White House, called the reporting "fake news": Abrego Garcia was returned to the United States to face trial for the egregious charges against him. He will face the full force of the American justice system -- including serving time in American prison for the crimes he's committed.

In court, the exchange went like this:

Judge Xinis: Wanted to get you on line because I have preliminary questions and want to set schedule. It's an unusual order. First question is for DOJ: What's the plan after release order issues for Abrego?

Dept of Justice: Immigration proceedings and my understanding is removal to third country (not El Salvador).
