Does anyone really believe Trump was NOT comment? He can't seem to help himself. His lawyers have a history of having difficulties controlling him.

That's the beauty of this. You don't need to get Trump to exercise restraint - you just need to get him to vent his spleen over here instead of over there. As long as he keeps saying that Stephanopoulos is a lying scumbag, and not that Carroll is a lying scumbag, he's in good shape.
