Brookfield Asset Management (NYSE:BAM) and Brookfield Corp. (NYSE:BN) completed on Tuesday a previously announced arrangement that's intended to enhance BAM's corporate structure and broaden its shareholder ownership. The arrangement paves the way for the stock's inclusion in widely followed U.S. market indices, which should broaden its shareholder base and increase the liquidity of its shares.
BAM shares rose 5.1% in after-hours trading.
Through the transaction, Brookfield Asset Management (NYSE:BAM) acquired ~73% of the outstanding common shares of Brookfield's asset management business from BN in exchange for 1,194,021,145 newly issued class A limited voting shares of BAM, on a one-for-one basis. As a result, BAM has a total of 1,637,198,026 class A shares, of which BN retains an ~73% interest. Based on BAM's closing price of $58.19 on Feb. 3, 2025, the company's market capitalization stands at $95.3B.
