i take carney serious as an economic strategist, and he is no fool when it comes to china.
e.g., it seems this deal imports massive car deflation via subsidized chinese models at 6% tariff.
a knee-jerk reaction would be to assume he has destroyed american companies with huge infrastructure and capital in canada (no need, trump is seeing to that).
in reality, chinese car imports are capped at ~60k/yr, less than 9% of historical volume in canada, until the deal expires.
this is an extremely modest approach going back to pre-trump levels, nothing more than stating canada is quite capable of making simple deals elsewhere at appropriate scale. carney deserves a break away from orange bloatman and wasted efforts to speak rationally.
plus, you know, canada may want to oppose the greenland heist.
