All good things come to an end, we had a hell of a run.

Actually, kinda pathetic. The Roman Empire lasted for at least 700 years. The British Empire for probably at least 400-500. We barely made it 250 years before stupidity and avarice overtook us.

What's really scary is that with modern technology, once a democracy fails it is really hard to get it back. Look at China, or DPRK, or even Russia. They're all making Orwell a reality. We have some control over how technology is used in a democracy, but none with an autocratic state.
