Why be vaguely insulting, instead of perhaps clarifying what you mean? Are you referring to the fact that there exist past trade disputes between the U.S. and Canada? That is of course true. But we're talking about the wisdom of the specific hardball approach that Canada is taking to the current trade conflict, where they've just basically gotten up from the table and walked.
That's a marked departure from their prior negotiating posture with the U.S. over many decades - but it's clearly a response to the way the U.S. has markedly changed its approach to resolving trade issues. It makes absolute sense that they would adopt this new, much more aggressive way of dealing with us. It's probably the right way to approach this conflict. They're not dumb or foolish for doing this; it's really the only way to handle a counterparty that's behaving the way the U.S. is in prosecuting these trade conflicts.
