"Studies have found that the forecasts and warnings provided by the private companies are more reliable than those provided by the NWS."

These private companies begin with data from NOAA. NOAA has the satellite and maritime buoy systems. last I read the private weather companies wanted NOAA out of the weather forecasting business, but they wanted NOAA to compile the data - too expensive for them. So it's another case of we want this part that makes money and eliminate Gov competition, but the GOV should still do the heavy costs. We just want the profit.
