Of course. The comment was mostly tongue-in-cheek.
On the other hand, the secret service was concerned enough about the lack of defenses (or perhaps the lack of secure communication) to encourage him to fly in the old plane. If the threat were non-existent, they wouldn’t care.
And sure, the fighter escort would take one for the Prez because that is who they are. But with a defenseless AF1, who takes the second (third?) missile?
Because anyone who doesn’t like us and has the slightest bit of common sense isn’t going to fire just one missile. They’d fire all they can.
