It’s apples to oranges to some extent, but:

The largest single Tea Party rally was the Taxpayer March on Washington in 2009, with estimates of its attendance ranging from tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands, although precise figures are disputed. A more conservative estimate places the cumulative number of people who attended various Tea Party protests across hundreds of cities at over 311,000, according to statistician Nate Silver.

And yet those 311,000 Tea Partiers had quite the impact on American politics.

7,000,000 people is more that 20 times that number……… these aren’t just “voters”. Most importantly, from this number will come the foot soldiers- the door knockers, the callers, the facebook flooders, the neighborhood organizers and campaign party hosters.
