THE LAW OF HOLES

I’m giving Trump 3 more weeks. If this War with Iran goes longer than 3 more weeks, I think this country and the world is in real trouble. It will be in trouble economically, politically, and environmentally. It could forever alter the world order and not in a good way.

My concern with this administration centers on the Law of Holes. For those not familiar let me explain what that is.

The Law of Holes (or First Law of Holes) is a widely used adage stating: "If you find yourself in a hole, stop digging." It serves as a metaphor for stopping detrimental behavior and preventing a bad situation—such as a financial loss, public relations crisis, or personal mistake—from worsening. It advises taking immediate action to stop making things worse.

Key Aspects of the Law of Holes:

Definition: When in an untenable position or crisis, continuing the same actions only makes the situation worse. The priority is to stop the damage, not to continue trying to "fix" it with more of the same behavior.

We all know when Trump gets himself in trouble his first inclination is doubling down on a bad situation. The Law of Holes states that is the WORST thing you can do.

Extensions of the Law:

The Second Law of Holes states: "When you stop digging, you are still in a hole". This implies that once you stop the damage, you still need to find a way out, often by fixing the damage caused.

Third Law of Holes states: “If you don't know that you are in a hole, ask someone who isn't covered with mud". This highlights the difficulty of recognizing one's own mistakes.

Why It's Difficult: The law is hard to follow because people often panic, double down on bad decisions, or lack the perspective to realize they are in a "hole".

This administration is full of zealots and blind believers just like Trump. It is virtually impossible for them to admit they are wrong. They “keep digging.”

Beware of the hole diggers and the Law of Holes.
