this is well inside my career circle.
rad safety is not some set of random guidelines. combining radiation with human biology has wide uncertainty in certain conditions. so multiple models can be mixed based on reasoning.
individuals tend to care about their own risk rather than stats from bomb and accident victims (much less lab studies). so monitoring devices are made mandatory. both paranoia, and recklessness, are not uncommon.
ALARA partly speaks to this.
in the end, its no different than any stem topic. every gop pol and voter is an expert , despite zero knowledge and background.
