Panama's President: Panama will not renew the memo 2017 with China on its Belt and Road Initiative. Panama will study the ability to end the agreement earlier than its end date in a year or two.
This comes after SecState Rubio's visit to Panama today.
Why, no. I never get tired of winning.
Amazing what having a US government who is willing to tell others what time it is can do.

Panama already backed away from the Chinese.
"Following the election of Laurentino Cortizo as Panama’s president in early 2019. After taking office, Cortizo suspended or cancelled multiple Chinese investment projects. A review by the Panama Maritime Authority (PMA), the government agency that oversees the country’s ports, of the PCCP concession found that the Landbridge-led consortium had failed to comply with numerous contractual terms, including investing only roughly one-fifth of the promised amount, failing to provide key project documentation, and employing much less local labor than promised. The review led to the PMA’s decision to revoke the PCCP concession in June 2021."

PCCP = Panama Colon Container Port - Lambo

Snicker, I LOL'ed at your snark and then decided to look it up. It really is named that.
There must a lot of colon shipments going through there to get a whole port named for them.
I am also glad they are shipped in containers, it would extra disgusting if the colons were shipped loose.
On second thought, the name could mean the shipments are just empty colon containers that will be filled with colons after they get to their destination. That's probably it, shipping actual fresh colons would take a lot of refrigeration.

Turns out it’s not just facts, even the truth has a liberal bias.

Thank you Joe Biden for making America great again! Wait a moment, if Joe did it, then it must not be good. Send Rubio back again and have Panama reverse their decision!

Colon is a port city on the Gulf or Atlantic side of Panama, has an accent mark over the second O, and is pronounced differently. The accent mark is left off quite a bit, and I don't know how to make one. The Province is also named Colon. I've been there. :)

Who wants to tell them that the PCCP is one thing and Belt and Road another? China’s BRI expansion into port-related facilities has stirred alarm for the United States over ambitions seen as endangering the neutrality of the Canal...
...Chinese companies have been heavily involved in infrastructure-related contracts in and around the Canal in Panama’s logistics, electricity, and construction sectors.
These projects fit naturally with China’s BRI vision, onto which Panama was the first Latin American country to sign in 2018...
...In 2016, in a $900 million deal, the China-based Landbridge Group acquired control of Margarita Island, Panama’s largest port on the Atlantic side and in the Colón Free Trade Zone, the largest free trade zone in the Western Hemisphere.
The deal established the Panama-Colón Container Port (PCCP) as a deep-water port for megaships, and the construction and expansion was carried out by the China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), a company also active in China’s island-building initiatives in the South China Sea, and the China Harbor Engineering Company (CHEC)...
and later it talks about Cortizo putting an end to deals, etc., signaling they wanted to move away from the Chinese and be a US ally.
...China’s expanded reach in the Panama Canal has slowed recently, mostly due to U.S. pushback and the Covid-19 pandemic. For example, the Panama Ministry of Public Works' plans for the announced fourth bridge over the Canal was scaled back in 2020. In 2018, U.S. and domestic pressure ended China’s plans to construct a large embassy at the mouth of the Canal.
In fact, numerous initiated projects have been canceled, postponed, or scaled back during the current administration of President Laurentino Cortizo. This scaling back of Chinese projects by the Cortizo administration indicates that there not only exists a desire to maintain open relations with the United States, as embodied by Panamanians’ access to “Global Entry international trusted traveler” status for entering the United States, but also an opportunity for the United States to take the lead in the geopolitical competition surrounding the Panama Canal...

I suspect the batteries wouldn't do well up there anyway. I believe the batteries are self-heating, but that takes power from the batteries. So reduced range. Still, better than letting the batteries get really cold (they don't work well in the cold).
When I was in Calgary, I remember seeing power strips in parking lots...turns out they are to plug in an engine block heater in the winter.
Also, Canada likes oil. Especially Alberta, as I recall.
