Though I've been following the Mechanical Investing board for many years, I've never learned how to use GTR1. And I may not learn how to program it, but I would like to be able to run screens.

I'm getting a Value Line Investment Survey subscription and would appreciate how to use that to get access to GTR1.

I know there have been many discussions about GTR1 over the years, but my searches haven't turned up the information I need.

The public version of GTR1:

To see what password is needed: Run Screener without a password, and check the error messages. For example, Run Screener without a password:

returns the error message: "You do not have permission for SI Pro screening. To gain permission ..."

I don't use VL data, and don't use anything other than the public GTR1, and so others may have better answers. If you just want picks similar to those posted in the rankings, there are other methods.

When you say 'other methods', does that mean having other sources for data and the ability to program gtr1? If so, I think I'm much more likely to run existing screens.

I used to do some programming (including a bit of programming in assembly language), but that was long ago.

Ges, I'd strongly suggest downloading LoHill's GTR1Helper app. The links to most recent versions (still available in the FAQ):
PC Version - PC v4.5 https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/zcb8coduucw5dy6zehj...

GTR1 for Dummies - http://mechinvesting.wdfiles.com/local--files/back... (may throw an insecure download error because it's a .docx but should be clean. Someone should turn that into a PDF sometime.

GTR1 Glossary - http://mechinvesting.wikidot.com/local--files/back...

GTR1 only uses SIPro data in addition to whatever other data services Robbie still supports. If you want to run your own screens/provide current picks, you will need the SIPRO subscription and latest data file(s) to fill in the key required. Not VL.

When you say 'other methods', does that mean having other sources for data and the ability to program gtr1?

By other methods, I meant other than gtr1 (e.g. Radiscript). One way is to move the data into a spreadsheet or database, and then use those applications to screen. Also, the data vendor probably offers screening tools.

So, it sounds like if I want to run the SIPRO screens I need to subscribe to AAII Stock Investor Pro.

ges and others,

I have written a Livecode program to get the screen picks if that is what you need. I use it each week to to get the SI Pro picks and as far as I know elann uses it to get the VL picks. It could even get the picks for the WER screens until that group quit producing the source data. I think it is easier to use and faster than RadiScreen. I program in Livecode so that I can produce an application that will run on both a Mac and a PC.
