I've been out of the MI loop for more than a decade. I think there were like 10 screens last time I was deep into this. Is there any wiki or anything that describes and categorizes the various screens? If not, what's the best way to find that info?

Best place to start is to scroll to the bottom of any of theses posts and click on the Mechanical Investing FAQ.

Hundreds of screens have been posted, but there is no wiki or categorization done. Reading through the individual posts is the only way to get the information. Maybe a LLM AI could be used if there was interest.

SPY has been difficult to beat the last 10 years (12.6 CAGR for SPY large caps, 8.6 CAGR for IJR small caps). Nano cap screens are a choice for some, but transaction costs (mostly the bid ask spread) are important.

Timing methods, tactical asset allocation, options methods, and new screen ideas have been discussed here. I keep track some of the new screen ideas, and will post post-discovery results at some point:

year new screens
2013 23
2014 12
2015 13
2016 10
2017 5
2018 12
2019 4
2020 20
2021 12
2022 14
2023 16
2024 3

Classification and screen selection methods have not been discussed much here. The most important classification is a screen you think is going to work. Picking screens that actually work would be great but is difficult. Join the hunt if you enjoy the process.

People have given up on MI, gave up with the Fool site change, follow screens they like without posting any longer as a result, disappeared for unknown reason, died, and many screens simply ceased to beat an index fund (or with too much risk for many people).

Few (relative to the old days) new screens are posted or discussed but some are, and some of those have updates to results with lists of screens from a few people nice enough to do calculations or use Robbie's tester (or both) but I don't keep links so you can do a board search and find those postings. I didn't look up the relative dates of when you were active but a number of active issues ceased being active if you were here back in Keelix' times, Jim's, active WER crossover postings, some Robbie tester down periods, the "Ride the Wave" time period or others, and some moved on to their personal boards or other Fool boards for their discussions. Mostly I think many people got tired of MI in general, and those who liked it have found screens they like without the need for much new discussion about them.

A set of curated MI screens that have beaten the market over the past 10 years are still being tracked and updated monthly at

https://discussion.fool.com/t/curated-screens-2024...

The updates contain the latest picks, along with the 10-year CAGR and YTD returns.
