This company goes out of its ways to do mischief. Messing with people is in its DNA.

Meanwhile, its base business is degrading at an alarming rate. The company doesn’t seem to care.

In a strange turnaround, search engines don’t want you to search for anything. That’s because searching leads you on a journey—and Google doesn’t want you to leave their platform.

The search engine was invented as your gateway to the web. The inventors of this technology tried to index every page on the Internet—so that you could find anything and everything.

That was an exciting era. Search engines were like train stations or airports. They took you all over the world.

At Google today, the goal is the exact opposite. You never leave the station.

Techies once described the Internet as a digital highway. But we need a different metaphor nowadays. Web platforms want to trap you on their app, and keep you there forever.

So, instead of a digital highway, we have a digital roach motel. They let the roaches check in—but not check out.

Yes, you are the roach in this business model.

I’m sorry to say that there’s no room service at this roach motel. But there is AI available round-the-clock.

It will answer your questions. Maybe not very well, but tough luck.

I have noticed that if you click the results of some searches it keeps you in chrome instead of going to the link.
For example if I search on "ssd drives", there is a list at the top called "Popular Products" and if you click on one, a side window opens.

I also always ignore the AI stuff.

Right now most things are getting worse and worse.

Streaming's golden age has ended with more and more ads, more expensive and even ads on premium "no ads" subscriptions.
The internet is just more and more cluttered with virus and malware and links that aren't what you want.
Amazon has nearly endless sponsored content when you search for a product.
You can't buy a sports ticket without ticketmaster or other service fees added, often $10+, even if you buy them at the box office (ball park).

The one thing that has puzzled me is why do advertisers seem to have endless budgets for ads?
I can't recall ever clicking on an ad on any internet website intentionally. Most TV ads I can't even remember what they were advertising. Many of the streaming ads that I can remember just seem to be advertising shows on a service I'm already paying for.

Best to use alternative products when possible. Different browsers, search engines, etc.
