It may just be perception, but there seems to be a lot more quality programming today than when I grew up. Sure, there's a bunch of rubbish. But we were watching "Lioness" (latest season), and after I was thinking "wow...great drama and suspense, smart". When I think back, not much TV like that. "Star Trek" was often (not always) smart, good stories.
Today, we're watching "Silo", "Lioness", "Fallout", and some others. "Ted Lasso" is delightful.
Not sure why. Maybe network censorship back in the day? I can't imagine the populace is more mature today, but maybe? Of course, they still have those reality rubbish shows, and some really stupid comedies.
