For anyone with even a slight knowledge of history can see, humanity has been down this road so many times before. Societies get lazy and stupid and allow a dictator to take charge. This never ends well, but it seems the US electorate has so many low information voters combined with an archaic and easily rigged electoral college system that is on the verge of allowing this sad scenario to play out once again.

And it certainly doesn't help that we have a kind of asymmetric warfare in our media, with the right spewing a constant barrage of lies and propaganda (helped along by Russia), and a mainstream media that is trying way to hard to 'both sides' it. Back in the day of real journalism and three networks it just wouldn't have been possible to create the MAGA madness and give an idiot like Trump a chance to get anywhere near the Whitehouse.

Oh, then toss Citizens United into the mix with its infusion of so much toxic money... it sort of feels like our democracy is ******.

Don't forget to thank Alzheimer Reagan's admin for 86ing the Fairness in Broadcasting doctrine

https://www.truthorfiction.com/the-fairness-doctri...

"“Ronald Reagan’s FCC abolished the Fairness Doctrine [established in 1949],” that a “Democrat-controlled Congress passed a bill to re-instate the Fairness Doctrine in 1987,” and that Reagan “vetoed the bill.” That timeline matches archival news reports, which covered bills passed in the House and Senate in June and April 1987 attempting to codify the Fairness Doctrine. In August 1987, the FCC voted to abolish the Fairness Doctrine. Although the meme’s timeline was slightly out of order, it aligned with news reporting of Congressional efforts, Reagan’s subsequent veto, and the FCC’s discontinuation of the Fairness Doctrine in August 1987."

other than fox and facebook, the other 'forgotten' major conduit for low information (and elderly) voters are local broadcast channels.

these were rife with vitriol among the GOP during primaries, and trump has yet to splurge GOP coffers for local ads.
in the meantime, your friendly local newstaff is coreced into rightwing editorials by corporate parent sinclair.
this is fairly powerful, since watchers are quite comfortable with local personalities that have been watching for 1-2 decades.

for various reasons (FCC and money), sinclair has been unable to increase its multi-station (ABC,CBS,NBC) markets.
wiki indicates where low info voters would be most vulnerable to propaganda, such as Floribama.

on the flipside, sinclair is "happy" (i.e., has to) take Democrat money for airtime, and those ads have been running since trump's conviction. (yes, i watch too much broadcast sports)
