Yahoo shut down the stock quote API over the weekend.
It worked on Friday 10/18/24 but not on Monday 10/21/24.

Now it returns an error message.

Bummer.

That's interesting as another tool - that uses Yahoo! data also - is working for me still. Has an 'older' API been shut down whereas a newer updated API is now the way to access the data?

Although on a bit closer inspection the other tool may be using "good old fashioned data scraping" as it describes it (which may take some time). I can provide a link if you're interested to the LGPLed source code in Python.

As a general note it seems data vendors are charging more or tightening terms of use and a lot of free or cheap data sources are drying up as a result.

Yup.
I am back to scraping.

FWIW, tiingo and finnhub both still work for me. They have limits for the free access.
EOD quotes only, but that's ok for me. Neither has index quotes, for that I have had to use yahoo (scrape) for quite some time.

Found another one https://site.financialmodelingprep.com Free API access, with limits. I have not signed up yet, maybe soon.

I'm surprised that some brokerages would not provide the data. Or did Yahoo just provide longer term data for free?
I've avoided Yahoo for years due to all of the ads they put on web pages that really tests my blockers :)
