A colleague of mine specializes in analyzing data collected and published by governmental agencies. Over the weekend, he began to prepare a report about trade between the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. He wrote the following a few hours ago:
"I just accessed the Census Bureau’s website in order to research imports and exports between Michigan, Canada and Mexico. What do you think I found? DEAD LINKS. The Trump Administration has taken down all foreign trade data and broken links to a host of economic data. They have also taken down articles and references to research papers and methodological studies."

Mexico agreed to send 10,000 troops to the US border, meeting a Trump demand, to pursue smugglers and illegals bringing fentanyl into the USA, in exchange for a 30 day pause in the tariff threat Trump laid on them. If this is in fact how the drug is being brought into the USA, there should be a marked and noticeable drop off in fentanyl OD deaths.
But Trump has muted the reporting of health statistics. Trump will almost certainly
crow about the great victory he squeezed out of Mexico. And with no reliable source
to actually check the data, Trump will be able to make any BS claim his heart desires
( although that is what he does now ). So I, for one, am not going to place a shred of
belief in any numbers Trump throws out about this.
Does anyone know if there is a legitimate source to track this data, that Trump has not
muted ?

First thing an authoritarian government does is burn the books... figuratively as well as literally.
The great enemies of any Dear Leader are facts, data and truth.
I'm sure he wishes he could have done the same at the end of his first term... burn or disappear the data on vaccine studies or mask efficacy.
Prepare for "Truth is what Trump says it is". But first, he has to get rid of the facts, so he can substitute his "alternative facts".
MAGA has already abandoned "facts" for their alternative. But soon it will be difficult to mount any sort of counter-arguments to the river of bullshit that is picking up speed and burying facts and truth under ten feet of swamp muck.
