I remember when a report along those lines, that the greatest threat to the republic was the extreme right, came out.

I think it's been more than one over the decades. Pretty sure they all said the same thing: right-wing extremists are more of a danger than Islamic extremists, and both are more dangerous than left-wing extremists.

I don't recall if they ever posited why. I'm not really sure why the right is the most volatile, and dangerous. But, consistently study after study, they are. I should say "extreme right". Lots of folks are right-wingers that aren't really a threat.
