Straight from one of the most learned respected voice.

Listen to the Campus. On this one, the Campus is right on:

https://www.shrewdm.com/MB?pid=400485045

"I'm pushing back on this not to be pedantic, but because I think that Democrats are still reluctant to see the threat that Republican populism poses for their coalition. The corporate/fiscal conservative faction has lost most of its ascendancy that it enjoyed as part of the Reagan (and Thatcher) realignment. It was a nice forty years while it lasted (for them), but right-wing parties all over the West have moved away from austerity (or even faux austerity) programs into full on populism. Democrats don't want to believe that this new populism is real, because if the GOP can pivot away from the Grover Norquist/Paul Ryan "let's cut all the popular governmental services" wing of the party, it's hard to see how the Democrats win elections."

So a tiny minority in Club 401K gets it. I've been saying this for a decade. Indeed, MAGA has been winning all over the West due to Smugness from Club 401K Liberals. Multiculturalism and Globalism run amok did it and thanks to MAGA, for once, solely the Right or Republicans aren't getting blamed as they've adopted what TMF JEDI used to say during the Bush years, vis a vis TRADE AND immigration.

Back to what Club 401K said above: I've been pounding the drum. TRIANGULATE. Accept that the Left has WON on Social Security and Medicare. EMBRACE the two programs now at the highest levels. Start TAX HIKES at 160K plus for FICA just for starters. Then bump a retirement age for higher skilled professionals. Now two things happen:

1.)You tax the very Liberals who has ruined the country and ridiculed you for a generation. They finally have to cough up the money.

2.)Can you imagine Bernie or AOC having to explain "We can't take people making $160K" when a majority of the country ain't seen $160k in a year?

That, plus immigration.....is WINNING.

That, plus immigration, PLUS EMBRACING DEARBORN......is a 30 year governing majority.

We can wave our flag and chirp "My Principles! My convictions! You're a great American Sean" and that's fine.....but then let's take our rightful places in Alabama with poverty and shitty lifespans, and White Christian Americans can admit that they needed an Al Sharpton and an NAACP and Trump was the first one they got because they are now marginalized.

Dress up like a Girl Scout and let President Harris hit you with the strap forever.

OR......

Win and govern. Ask Bill Clinton. On Death Penalty and Welfare he triangulated. And Newt ended up being his female dog that rhymes with itch.

Center, CenterRight governance is better than a California NYC dynasty.

We're not at that crossroads yet but we're getting reaaaaaaaaaly close.

I'm all for it. I'd just like to see people north of 50 grandfathered into the old system so I don't have to pay for it :).

Then bump a retirement age for higher skilled professionals.

This is fraught. Who determines what is a “higher skilled professional”? Is it someone who works on the factory floor? (My father was a research metallurgist, but spent most of his time in a steel mill.) An airline flight attendant who is on their feet all day?

The fights over this sort of classification system would be legendary. Gotta be a better way. I sort of like the way it is: actuarially neutral so far as the government coffers are concerned, voluntary age to begin collecting from the worker point of view. Should raise the minimum for taxation so SS escapes taxes at the low end; people with significant income in retirement or who choose to keep working can give a tax man a little.

Employees who make over $120,000 to start. Also stock grants should be taxed at each vesting.
