Are Republicans realizing they will need to fold?
albaby has recently posted that the CR has an expiration of 11/21 (IIRC). This puts the Republicans in a bit of a bind as it will force them to come up with a new CR, which will be exceedingly difficult. Thank you, MTG.
Now, albaby has logically exposed (no surprise) the ridiculous and fictional number of $1.5 trillion that marco100 is claiming that Democrats are demanding. Anyone reading the news (or the many posts on this board) over the last few weeks, knows that the Democrats ONLY condition to vote for the CR is extension of the ACA subsidies. Period. Full stop.
The Republican position has always been vote for the CR and we’ll negotiate later. Of course the Republicans used this same strategy in March 2025, which the Democrats fell for. The Republicans had no intention of negotiating and compromising, and they didn’t.
Tuesday’s results certainly didn’t strengthen the Republicans position. Voters overwhelmingly voted for Democrats.
I think the Republicans know they are in between a rock and a hard place.
Oh, and those damn Epstein files.
My best guess is the Republicans know they will need to (dirty word warning) compromise. And they will need to save face. So they’re coming up with a completely ridiculous number like $1.5 gigabazillion and their base will believe it. Silly, but they’re obviously desperate.
Got to hand it to the Republicans. They know their base.

I disagree with this. It has been widely reported they also wanted more funding for medicaid, and the "new" Peters proposal drops the medicaid portion and only asks for ACA subsidies.
If we believe GOP positioning relative to the original $1.5T ask, the republicans would be idiots to reject the latest proposal, but all indications are they will. I suspect the $1.5T positioning is to make it look like a concession is actually a win.

The Republicans don't need to do anything now.
The Dem Party Caucus and King Schumer's brown nosers are in chaos and panic.
As evidenced by the fact that even one of the board's ProGlibs knows that albaby1 et al are simply lying by pretending that one year of ACA subsidy extension is all Schumer ever wanted.
It's over.
You lost.

You know you are lying by writing that HCL. From the outset Schumer said they want ACA enhanced subsidies extended. IIRC that would be 10 years, but I don't want to look it up. One year of ACA extension is a compromise, but I think your reading the situation incorrectly. The onus is now on Repubs. It looks to me that all this did was underscore that the Republicans shut down the government. Possibly wrong, we shall see.

My best guess is the Republicans know they will need to (dirty word warning) compromise. Nope. I don't see any urge to "compromise".
The national "news" at 6:30 said the Trump regime will comply with the courts and pay SNAP benefits for November.
An hour later, this hit the wire:
Trump administration asks Supreme Court to halt order providing full SNAP payments for Novemberhttps://currently.att.yahoo.com/news/articles/trum...The more the regime can take away from the Proles, the more it can give to the "JCs".

And America sees that the shutdownnwould have been over-
ACA premiums would have fallen
SNAP benefits would have resumed
And airline flights would have returned to normal volume
If Republicans had only agreed to a single one year extension of ACA subsidies.
And the American people understand very clearly….
That Republicans value tax cuts to billionaires, 40 billion dollar bailouts to Argentina, a 90,000 square foot, gold encrusted ballroom….. more than they value Americans
Don’t believe me? Check out those election results from Tuesday.

I believe this is the Lucy Strategy. It was best illustrated by Charles (not Schumer) Schultz.
10 Lucy sets the ball for a place kick.
20 Charlie Brown runs up to kick the ball.
30 Lucy jerks the ball away at the last moment.
40 Charlie sails into the air and falls on his back

Incorrect. The Republicans didn't pull the football away. From the start of this dispute, they have always taken the position of requiring passage of a clean C.R., and only after that would they be willing to negotiate on substantive budgetary issues.
King Schumer is the one who tried pulling the football away.
The Dems can still pass the clean C.R. and they will, before November 21, which is the drop-dead deadline.

What are the incentives for Republicans to negotiate after a clean CR? I don't see any. By passing a clean CR you have completely lost any negotiation leverage you have. It shouldn't even sound right to you - first, cave and let us have what we want, - then, if we feel like it, we'll negotiate. You're an odds guy, if you were playing poker, this would be- show us your cards, then we'll bet.

iirc, that was Putin's approach to negotiating an end to the Ukraine war: "give me everything I want first, then we'll negotiate".
