WaPo just laid off 300 people- tons of journalists including those covering Ukraine War.
Struggling to survive. Aww, Jeff. Seems like the only thing dying in darkness is the WaPo.
“The Washington Post is taking a number of difficult but decisive actions today for our future, in what amounts to a significant restructuring across the company,” the Post said in a statement. “These steps are designed to strengthen our footing and sharpen our focus on delivering the distinctive journalism that sets The Post apart and, most importantly, engages our customers.”
Horseshit, Jeff. Go back to your full-time job of sucking up to this administration.

Actually, the Washington Post is not "floundering."
The Washington Post is finally taking real steps to start improving the objectivity and profitability of its journalistic product.
When you run a company chock full of leftist, biased aholes, getting rid of several hundred of them is a HUGE improvement.

And as it has taken these “real steps”, its readership numbers have fallen off a cliff.

Canceled my subscription yesterday. With half the real journalists gone, and suck-to-trump-bribe-paying-Bezos tipping the scale, it's no longer worth the price of a cup of coffee. Bezos figured that destroying the WaPo is a small price to pay for securing his government contracts.

Welcome to the ranks of ex-WaPo subscribers.
If you haven’t already, head over to Substack. Lots of ex-Wapo and ex-NYTimes reporters and columnists there.

and suck-to-trump-bribe-paying-Bezos tipping the scale,
Trump the Perfect is a typical "JC": "swaggering, tin-plated, dictator, with delusions of God-hood". Probably every "JC" in the country has sized up Trump the God, and knows how to play office politics. After all, outside of founders, like Bezos, they got where they are today, by sucking up to the boss, while stabbing everyone else in the back.

They were losing $77M a year. What was Bezos supposed to do? Just keep paying the same people to lose more readers?

It was Jeff Bezos’ bending the knee to Trump that is responsible for the loss of readers since just before the inauguration.
All the decent journalists have already gone.
Shoot, you guys have been making fun of us for dumping WaPo since we did.
It was Bezos who destroyed the paper. And we told you at the time that he was destroying it.
I hope he finds the same measure of success as he enjoys withe the box office success of “Melania”.

No, Bezos, a premier capitalist and business genius, has decided that excessively catering to left wing nut jobs isn't profitable.

This is LOLOLOL worthy. They've been bleeding readers for years, along with the rest of the legacy media.
It's amazing how when you tell over half the country they're a bunch of idiots that after a while they quit listening to you altogether. Then when you can't please the activists they turn on you also.
It's almost like a newspaper...should just...report the news. Call balls and strikes.
But the WaPoo didn't. And soon it'll be toast. Good riddance.
What the left touches, dies.

there is an eerie similarity made by trump sycophants in their 'restructure-to-profitability' blather :
twitter result by Musk :
result : revenue $5b -> $2b, ad marketplace for scammers with most S&P500 corp ads gone.
Kennedy center by Dick 'weasel' Grenell :
result : Melania movie bomb followed by closure announcement, clearing the way for MAGA construction scams.

I agree. Pandering to right wing nut jobs is much more profitable, in the present environment. Bezos, Zuck, I forget who else I recognized at the inauguration, know how to play a guy like Trump: kissy, kissy, sucky, sucky. If I was in that crowd, I would be doing the same thing, because it's profitable to do so.

FOX has it figured out: feed your ignorant consumers a steady diet of hate and fear and they will keep coming back like a starving man to food. It's what makes their miserable lives endurable.
FOX and all the other right wing mercenary media are killing our country.

<They were losing $77M a year. What was Bezos supposed to do? Just keep paying the same people to lose more readers?>
1. He knew it was a losing investment when he bought it and committed to keep democracy alive, before turning into a brown nosed sycophant.
2. He started losing subscribers massively when he squashed his own editorial board’s decision to endorse Kamala Harris in 2024.
3. He could have NOT spent $75 million in bribing Melania, and saved it for his newspaper.

Even Andrew Carnegie eventually realized that all his stacks of money weren’t doing anybody any good, so he started funding libraries all over the country. The Ford Foundation invested in health care and helped support the Detroit Symphony, Detroit Institute of the Arts, and other local causes in and around Michigan.
The Bill Gates Foundation has used its monies to support health initiatives around the world, and the Rockefellers used their money to support public lands, health, and other worthy causes.
What is Bezos doing with his? Buying bigger yachts? He’s worth $252 billion. Losing $75 million a year means the nation’s capital could have a functioning newspaper for another 3,360 years before it ran out, assuming none of it was invested and it made no interest of any kind along the way.
If you took the 252,000,000,000 and just got 3% interest in a passbook savings account, you would have 100 times the funding necessary to keep the WaPo going every year , with another 7 billion and change left over.
So yeah, he could do this. Or he could choose something else, but at the moment he’s choosing nothing, and destroying the best last hope for communication and information in the capital of the country. Or, as the mast head is about to proclaim: Democracy … in Darkness.

He gifted us ‚Melania‘ for $75m.
What more could we possibly ask for?
