Apple announced a $500 billion investment in U.S. manufacturing over the next 4 years, that also includes hiring 20,000 employees. I support this type of high tech manufacturing in the U.S. (for both economic and national security reasons) which is why I am a supporter of Biden’s CHIPs Act.
Of course, this won’t do much to solve the unemployment of individuals who do not have a college degree. From the link:
the 20,000 people Apple said it will hire over the next four years will be mostly focused on R&D, silicon engineering, software development, and AI and machine learning. Also, there will be a cost. China is known for their laser focused retaliatory tariffs, and I expect them to use them again. These will most likely offset the new jobs somewhat.
Did tariffs push this? Again, regarding tariffs from the link:
… Evercore ISI analysts have estimated the potential financial impact on Apple would be relatively minimal.Overall, I think this is good for America.

Does this sound like manufacturing to you? It doesn't to me.
Apple is already making a big push into AI. I wonder if this is like Mexico's and Canada's giving in to Trump by announcing things that were already in place.

Cheers ! If I put myself in the "good news is good" mode - I fully agree with you this is good news.
I think at times, tariffs, tax policy, or even the President's bully pulpit can yield good things and bad.
This is America First.
JUST like President Biden's CHIPS act and Infrastructure policy - both of which I support and consider America First.
PS: Well before Trump, China told all their gov't people not to use Apple stuff. And btw China's home brand is rising a bit in China. I guess they are allowed to do that and we aren't. BTW where do you think they ripped off the knowhow to do all that stuff :) As someone on TMF warned - all the SP500 Worshippers are gonna get their asses ripped off in China. Mind you even back then I was a chess player in a sea of checkers enthusiasts. From Smartphones to EVs, China got you people so good.

I think this is a good point. I’m sure a good chunk of it was already in the works.
But the article does mention new manufacturing facilities in the U.S.

Aha! From another article I found about the Apple investment:
In 2021, Apple said it would spend $430 billion and add 20,000 jobs in the United States over five years, plans that overlap with its latest announcement.

They're building a plant in Phoenix.
At any rate, the $500B number over 4 years sounds high; they have $152Bn in current assets right now and would have to take out a fair amount of long term debt.

Good to see Apple playing the game with Trump's stupid ego and him being unable to see through the ploy.
