The Ordinary Explanations Behind the Mysterious Lights in the Skies

As tips roll in, most reported incidents involve piloted planes and hobby drones, not foreign spying or secret programs, officials say.

Of the more than 5,000 tips they had received about drone sightings in recent weeks, only 100 required further examination, John Kirby, the National Security Council spokesman, said on Monday.

“We assess that the sightings to date include a combination of lawful commercial drones, hobbyist drones and law enforcement drones, as well as manned fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters and even stars that were mistakenly reported as drones,” Mr. Kirby said. “We have not identified anything anomalous or any national security or public safety risk over the civilian airspace in New Jersey or other states in the Northeast.”

Many of the most exciting videos posted on social media have shown piloted planes, according to experts.

That will not satisfy the conspiracy theorists.

Riddle me this....

Lotsa hobby drones now a days. FAA regs changed last year to allow night flights... Drones have to be registered. Night flights must have lights on.

Reports are the drones go dark when approached. So right there is a violation, attempted evasion, concealment. Reason enough to bring down drones exhibiting this behavior, track down the owner/operators and prosecute.

Instead, we get "most"... No hostile intent detected, that is until the night when a few extra drones join the party distributing anthrax up and down the coast. An unidentified drone, particularly of the too big to be a hobbyist size, should be treated like a cruise missile. Our apparent lack of ability (or is it will?) to detect, let alone repel them, is alarming...

If this was happening on January 21, 2025 the libs would be losing their minds and demanding impeachment hearings.

How many reports? How many times did this happen? Why do I ask this? It sounds like something said to be ominous and can't be verified. What vehicle were they approaching in? If you lose sight of a drone in the lights, and it lands, is that mysterious? All you did was lose it in the lights, but it's more betterer for conspiracy purposes that it "went dark".

Once you start these things, they take on a life of their own. I'm more concerned about shutting down airports because the drone operators don't realize how close they cam to the airport.

I’m still betting on “idiots with drones” rather than “probers/spies with drones”.

How many? Lots but I don't have an exact count and you know that. BTW, that number goes up every day. If you opened yourself to other new sources you would have some sense of the reality of the "go dark" behavior.

You repeated the Governor of NJ four times, two just said dark objects, never lighted. One NJ Senator said go dark when approached.

As if the drone can detect your eyes looking at it. And any alien technology sophisticated enough to detect you're looking at it, can make it so you never see it.

Is this the same Governor that took a picture of a constellation and thought the stars in it were lit up drones? :)
