Asked how things are going to work out in Iran, President Trump told CNN, “It’s gonna work very easily. It’s going to work like it did in Venezuela. We have a wonderful leader there. She’s doing a fantastic job. And it’s going to work like in Venezuela.”
It took mere seconds for reporter Sophie Brams of The Hill to suffer cognitive dissonance.
President Trump praised interim Venezuelan President Delcy Rodríguez amid reports that his administration was threatening to indict her if she did not continue to cooperate with the U.S.
Trump said Delcy Rodriguez is doing “a fantastic job,” possibly because Venezuela's state-owned mining company, Minerven, on Monday “inked a multimillion-dollar deal to sell as many as 1,000 kilograms of gold destined for U.S. markets.” U.S. Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum arrived in Caracas immediately thereafter “with a couple dozen representatives of American mining companies and other firms in tow.”

USian "traditional value" is to support any jumped up piece of crap, no matter how corrupt or brutal, as long as they pay lip service to being "good anti-communists". Supporting Rodriguez, while simultaneously threatening her with prosecution, if she doesn't toe the line, is perfectly consistent with long standing US policy. Ask former CIA asset Noriega.

It's called "Realpolitik". I told you guys this was how it was going to go - Delcy has 2 doors to pick from:
-Door #1 is she plays ball and gets to have a future in Venezuela. Maybe even with a fully lined pocket.
-Door #2 is that somebody yanks her out of bed one night, throws a black hood over her head and the next thing she knows she's in the jail cell across the hall from her old boss.
That was always going to be the plan.

I think you may be right on that score. Especially as, from the start, Generalissimo Trump said he will rule, until he decides to let the Venezuelan people vote.
