As late as May 2019 (after Mad King Donald withdrew from the JCPOA for no reason in 2018), the head of the international organization charged with monitoring Iran’s compliance with the 2015 nuclear deal said
Iran was still continuing to meet its obligations under the accord. It wasn't until June of this year that Iran was declared to be out of compliance.

Yup. What incentive does this destruction of Iran's nuclear sites give to them to do ANY further negotiation? Answer: none. They'll simply reconstitute their program(s) perhaps burrowing even deeper into their bunker mountains, beyond the reach of even the the U.S.'s 30,000 lb MOBs (Massive Ordinance Bombs). I am glad Trump took out Iran's nuclear program and believe that was the right decision even though there remains the problem you describe. If the present day mullah nutjob mentality continues indefinitely, it is almost certain the Iranian nuclear ambitions will re-ignite. It may be ten or twenty years but they have been shouting death to America for 50+ years and are if nothing else, are a patient and committed adversary.
It seems that the only practical next step must be regime change. This sounds desirable but it really is a crap shoot because I have heard there are of sects of nutjobery that are even more orthodox than the present day collection. I don't know Iranian politics at all, and don't understand the who are the opposition parties and what they stand for. The important lesson we have learned (I hope) is regime change and candidate selection are to be avoided by us and left for them to figure out.
