'CHICAGO - There was a heated response Wednesday night from a South Side community where hundreds of migrants are about to be moved.

'I don't want them there!' Hyde Park residents
heated over migrants moving to Lake Shore Hotel

A community meeting was held at The Promontory on Wednesday to discuss the new temporary housing, and there were lots of fireworks.

Migrants are expected to move into the hotel for six months, where 300 asylum seekers can be housed. However, the city says it is a fluid situation, and it will need to revisit the timeline.

"I don't want them there! Take them someplace else or send them back to Venezuela I don't care where they go," said resident Doris Lewis. "This is wrong. You got 73 percent of the people that are homeless in the city are Black people, what have you done for them?"

The alderman Desmon Yancy of the 5th Ward says he just found out about the move last week.'

A poster comment 'What do you mean 'you don't want them'? You invited them. You set out a free buffet. They arrived. YOU VOTED for this. Repeatedly. Like your new mayor. This is who you are now.'

I second that, libs voted for dems and this is what you get. Top lib honcho Biden opened the borders and couldn't care less about the plight of American citizens.

Blah blah blah.....a broken record. Liberal democrats didn't elect Biden. Democrats represent a spectrum of perspectives, and it was the participation of conservative, centrist, and liberal Democrats plus independents who switched. In addition, a larger percentage of conservative and moderate Democrats voted for Biden than had voted for Hillary. Pew did a very careful assessment that the Brookings Institution discussed.

"...using a massive sample of 'validated' voters whose participation has been independently verified, the Pew Research Center has published a detailed analysis of the 2020 presidential election. It helps us understand how Joe Biden was able to accomplish what Hillary Clinton did not....

"The Biden campaign reunited the Democratic Party. Compared to 2016, he raised the share of moderate and conservative Democrats who voted for the Democratic nominee by 6 points, from 85 to 91%, while increasing the Democratic share of liberal Democrats from 94 to 98%. And he received the support of 85% of Democrats who had defected to 3rd party and independent candidates in 2016....

"As his supporters for the Democratic nomination had hoped, Joe Biden appealed to the center of the electorate across party lines. He did 10 points better than Hillary Clinton among Independents, and he doubled her showing among moderate and liberal Republicans. He improved on her performance among two swing religious groups'Catholics (up 5 points) and mainline Protestants (up 6). Most important, he raised the Democratic share of suburban voters by 9 points, from 45 to 54%, and among White suburban voters, from 38 to 47%."

What does Volodymyr Zelenskyy have on Biden that Biden keeps sending billions of dollars of American tax payer money and a pittance to help our own here in America?

There are 2 issues here. First is that comparing these two situations is apples and oranges, or cherries and watermelons. Second is that this $95 million is nowhere near the sum total of what Biden is offering to Maui, but only one component directed toward a specific goal.

As for Breitbart's manipulative (talk about sheep) comparison.... What does Zelensky "have" on Biden? I guess the same thing he has on all of the other countries supporting Ukraine, and attempting to block Russia's rabid tyranny, in this same way. Russia invaded Ukraine a year and a half ago to destroy their independence and annex them, and set a precedent for taking over other former members of the ex-Soviet Union. And the devastation of towns and cities, and the horrendous loss of life, are horrific. The support needed to continue fighting this enemy and safeguard the current world order cannot help but be astronomically greater than Maui's needs.

As for the $95 million that Biden just announced.... "President Joe Biden announced **more** federal funding for Hawaii Wednesday as the state attempts to recover from the deadly wildfires in Maui. President Biden said he is sending $95 million from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to Hawaii to help strengthen the state's electrical grid.

'It means investments to make sure electricity can continue to reach homes, hospitals, water stations even during intense storms and extreme weather,' said Biden."
https://www.graydc.com/2023/08/31/president-biden-...(Gray%20DC)%20%2D%20President,strengthen%20the%20state's%20electrical%20grid.

(Note: The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law was initially proposed by Biden, and he signed it into law in 2021.)

In addition.... $5.6 million has come from FEMA for help to individual families.

In addition... "President Biden made additional disaster funding available to the state of Hawaiʻi, unlocking the federal government's ability to cover all eligible expenses for debris removal and emergency protective measures in Maui County and assistance for emergency protective measures for Hawaiʻi County."
https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statement....

And the situation is ongoing.

Re Biden's help for Maui's recovery from the disastrous fire.....

Today there's still more....a move to replenish FEMA's exhausted reserves to increase their ability to help Maui and the damage wrought by Idalia.

"The Biden administration is seeking an additional $4 billion to replenish the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) Disaster Relief Fund in the wake of recent extreme weather, bringing the total it is asking Congress to approve to $16 billion.

The extra funding request announced Friday is in response to the Maui wildfires, for which President Biden signed a major disaster declaration to support recovery efforts, and to Hurricane Idalia, which also required a major disaster declaration."

Biden is requesting $16 billion more in disaster relief funds for Maui and the hurricane in Florida.

"The Biden administration had initially requested $12 billion in extra funding for the Federal Emergency Management Agency's disaster relief fund, which helps with rescue and relief efforts. But a spokesperson in the Office of Management and Budget, Shelby Wagenseller, said that the fires in Hawaii and Louisiana as well as flooding in Vermont and Hurricane Idalia striking Florida and other Southeastern states mean that a total of $16 billion is needed."

And as for the Ukraine, since Putin is a "friend" it is fashionable to abandon our commitments to our allies. You are free to go live in Russia's new Christian enclave for those enamored Russia,

'Biden to Send Maui Less than One-Tenth
of One Percent of What He Wants to Send Ukraine'

#1. Breitbart is garbage. If you're getting your info from them, you are not well-informed. Just because they say what you want to hear does not mean they are accurate. Independent monitoring entities rank Breitbart near the bottom in terms of reliability and accuracy. You should really stop reading their crap.

#2. I follow the Ukraine conflict pretty closely. Most of what we are "sending" is hardware. Hardware that we had in storage, mostly because we were never going to use it again because it was obsolete. The accountants will tally that as an expenditure for the Ukraine column in their ledgers. But the hardware already existed. We produced them years ago, sometimes decades ago (the F16 is old, early versions of the M1 Abrams are old). Are we producing new stuff to send? Nope. Just as Russia is scavenging their boneyards for T72s (really old tanks), and even T62s (really really old tanks), we are sending our obsolete stuff from storage. The actual cost to us is negligible. We just have to put it on a plane and send it.

Maui, on the other hand, is receiving new expenditures. Biden opened up the federal disaster relief fund for Maui. Here are the facts (which Breitbart is allergic to):

https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statement....

Last week, President Biden made additional disaster funding available to the state of Hawaiʻi, unlocking the federal government's ability to cover all eligible expenses for debris removal and emergency protective measures in Maui County and assistance for emergency protective measures for Hawaiʻi County. The President authorized the federal cost share to be increased from 75% to 100% for 30 days that the Governor selects within the first 120 days.

And more
https://www.newsweek.com/joe-biden-federal-aid-mau...
and more and more and more...

The info is out there. You just have to want to find it. I did it in about 10 seconds.

---------------

Throw money at the problem, standard operating procedure. No doubt money is needed but what those people needed from the get go was food and shelter and what was Biden;s first act of compassionate relief, IIRC the amount was a $704 grant and even that will take weeks or months to be distributed.

On day 2 or 3, there should have been a steady stream of C-130s landing on one or more of the islands, chock full of pallets of food, water, blankets, clothing, baby formula, whatever FEMA has squirreled away around the country. Coordinated with Navy resources to deliver these relief supplies to coastal communities that are unreachable except by water. How about parking one of those Mercy Ships like the one that Cuomo didn't use during Covid. That would provide immediate housing to two or three thousand homeless Hawaiians. The FEMA staff could stay there instead of the 5 star resorts they are being forced to endure. With $16B sloshing around, Biden could rent a dozen cruise ships and provide housing for every one who needs it in a matter of weeks.

I don't like it because it is not reliable or accurate. I don't care if it's conservative or not. I read all sorts of things from all over the world. I like getting different perspectives. I don't like being deceived, which is what Breitbart does.

I also don't like Daily Kos, not because it is liberal, but because its factual rating is "mixed":

I don't like "mixed". I want "high" or above. Like the NYT:

The National guard, the military air, and Kamaka airlines moved things in. Throwing money is a very trite thing to say when it's money that moves things. I'm disappointed you don't know how disaster's work. But he'll never be as bad as Trump was with Puerto Rico.

New probe confirms Trump officials blocked Puerto Rico from receiving hurricane aid
The Trump administration also obstructed an investigation looking into why it was depriving the U.S. territory of congressionally approved funds, the report found.

Seven months after the probe was launched, two top HUD officials admitted to knowingly missing the congressionally mandated deadline to issue a notice that would have unlocked billions in federal recovery funds to Puerto Rico. Carson later defended his agency's actions by echoing Trump talking points ' citing concerns about corruption, fiscal irregularities and "Puerto Rico's capacity to manage these funds."

Throughout his term, Trump repeatedly opposed disaster funding for Puerto Rico while disputing and failing to acknowledge Maria's death toll. (2,925 dead)
