Just not for the U.S.

BREAKING:
India and the EU are looking to diversify away from Trump & The US.
This deal took nearly 20 years to reach and is being called the "mother of all deals."

Details of the historic trade deal between India and the EU have emerged:

1. Eliminates tariffs on ~90% of goods trade between EU and India

2. Set to double EU goods exports to India by 2032

3. Tariffs on cars from EU to India cut from 110% to 10%

4. Tariffs on wines from EU to India cut from 150% to 20%-30%

5. Tariffs on jewelry and textiles from India to EU cut to 0%

6. Tariffs on furniture, chemicals, leather, and metals from India to EU cut to 0%

Congrats to both entities - though I wonder - every single time the US signed a deal with another country, did Republicans like Banksy taunt other countries with "haha, US and Nation XX but not you"?

Either way, good deal.

The murderous, colonizing slave traders of Europe are learning a lesson, and dealing with people in a nicer way.

Many great aspects of the deal including - a more welcoming policy in Europe --more stable policy re-affirmbed for students and student visas.

And best of all.....

Both signatories on this deal....have been buying Putin's oil, and will keep on doing so....and all the Putin Oil they've bought so far---I wonder what Putin has used the money for.

Overall, all is great.

Other than Ukrainian civilians, ....everybody else - is getting what they deserve here.

It's almost as though imposing punitive tariffs someone we wanted - and have spent decades trying to cultivate - as our ally might dissuade them from fostering closer connections with us, and instead go elsewhere? My favorite response so far was Bessent, who was spoke just before the finalized deal was announced.

Trump is yet to react publicly to the EU-India deal, which was announced in the early hours of Tuesday morning European time, but he and the White House are unlikely to be happy with the deal. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has already criticized the EU for forging ahead with a trade agreement with India.

“The U.S. has made much bigger sacrifices than Europeans have. We have put 25% tariffs on India for buying Russian oil. Guess what happened last week? The Europeans signed a trade deal with India,” Bessent told ABC News Sunday.

Right? We put 25% tariffs on India - and can you believe that they actually went out and decided to do a trade deal with someone other than us? Can you believe it?

This is one of those gaping flaws in Trump’s program that simply baffles me.

It’s like he swears he’s invented a perpetual motion machine and then goes to war with “friction” for screwing it all up.

“The machine would work flawlessly if it wasn’t for the friction!”

In this case, the friction is other centers of decision making, and even single human beings who may have other ideas than those embodied by the perfect perpetual motion.

In the end, fascism has no choice but to make ruthless war on the friction that threatens the efficiency of their beautifully conceptualized perpetual motion machine.

The “friction” is us.

bessent is the token, but false, 'adult-in-the-room' that rightwing media always need to have under trump.

while actual binding deals are being executed by former allies, bessent claims this meaningless nugget :
"Carney, who was very aggressively walking back some of the unfortunate remarks he made at Davos"

all but the reciprocally corrupt have decided that 1-on-1 meetings with trump seeking a bribe for non-binding promises are a waste of time. serve trump empanadas as needed.

along w/trump debt, trump deficit, the trump tariff tax is definitively decided :
- US customs revenue increased by approximately usd$200 billion in 2025.
- Foreign exporters absorbed only about four percent of the tariff burden, 96% passed through to US buyers.
- Trade volumes collapsed, but export prices did not fall.

I'm going to call this "great sucking sound, 2.0"

My suspicion is the EU didn't get the sucking sound effect from Mexico, because NAFTA predated Mexico's free trade agreement with the EU, so Mexico's primary focus has been the US and Canada. Indian industrial wages make Mexicans look rich.

from the net sifter:

Summary Table of Comparative Data (Approximate)
Metric (Approx. 2023-2025)........Mexico............................India
Avg. Mfg Hourly Wage...........$2 - $6 USD.........................< $2 USD
Annual Salary (Mfg).........High ($15k-$20k+ USD)..........Low (~$4k USD)
IT/Developer Monthly..........~$1,700 USD...................~$900 USD
Key Advantage......Proximity to US, Efficiency.........Extremely low labor costs

In a few years, the EU will see it's industrial base hollowed out, just as the US has, with the resulting social problems.

Actually, the sucking sound has already started. Starting in 2027, the VW Golf, for sale in the EU, will be built in Mexico, while VW closes a German plant.

Steve
