I posted earlier today, how Michigan SNAP benefits end November 1, due to the shut-down. Someone replied that SNAP had not stopped in previous shut-downs.

Well....

Trump administration won’t tap contingency fund to keep food aid flowing, memo says

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Trump administration is rejecting the idea of using roughly $5 billion in contingency funds to keep food aid flowing into November amid the government shutdown, according to a Department of Agriculture memo that surfaced Friday. States temporarily covering the cost of benefits next month will not be reimbursed, the memo says.

The document blames Democrats for the government shutdown that began Oct. 1 and states that November SNAP benefits would be paid on time “if not for Congressional Democrats blocking government funding.”

Trump administration says it won't tap emergency funds to pay food aid

Some states, including Virginia and Hawaii, have started to tap their own emergency funds to offer some food benefits in the absence of SNAP. But it’s not clear how long that aid can last given states’ limited budgets and typical reliance on federal help to pay for anti-hunger programs. USDA, furthermore, said states cannot expect to be reimbursed if they cover the cost of keeping benefits flowing.

So the Mighty T refuses to do what has been done in the past, will lay the blame on the Democrats, and that'll likely work because we don't have good messaging. This could get ugly quickly. You know MAGA will say it's Dems and we are just not getting any messages across. We'd win here on this forum, and with other Dems, but that's about it. I'll see what others think.

I am all for continuing said benefits.

What saddens me -- - the cultural and socioeconomic reasons will NEVER be discussed as to *why* so many people in a 'rich country' need it. One side shouts "$15 an hour!" for a decade. The other side says "free market"

It's too bad.

More of this will be bred.

It won't be reduced - -- quite the opposite.

Ask yourself who Schumer is "fighting for"? Is it the Proles? Or is it the insurance companies, that stand to lose 20M customers if the subsidies end?

I have been saying, for a while, that there are only about 22M people who benefit from the subsidies. That is too small a portion of the population to die for. Now 42M people have their food subsidy cut. If you are young, and healthy, you can roll the dice and go without insurance. But, even the young and healthy get hungry.

I think Albaby pegged it. People for a while now have wanted the Democrats to do something, to resist, and make a statement about what we are. Now I think when they strategize, they've got groups of people who are looking for flaws in the strategy. They may or may not have perceived this problem and have an approach ready. We should soon know. Let's see if people get the message that we are subsidized healthcare and food, but that's only part of what we are.

Yep, some farmers are finally upset with him, and some of the independents who voted for him, but not enough. We need something to seriously erode and weaken him. Inflation or unemployment are happening too slowly. Any ideas? Anyone?

Fox flamethrowing pundit Tomi Lahren has posted some kind of pissed off messages on behalf of US cattlemen... but ChickenshiTomi didn't tag anybody in the Trump admin. Red meat for the orange cult.

"Why the actual FUCK would we buy Argentinian beef?"

"Our AMERICAN ranchers are getting crushed already by cheap shit foreign beef imports," she continued. "The meat packers are already under cutting our AMERICAN producers as it is. This is an OUTRAGE. #americanbeef #Argentina."

""Hey Tomi, you didn't finish your post. You left out the part blaming the current occupant of the White House for this. You are correct to be pissed, now tell your followers why. Tell them Trump did this."

“It‘s rocket science, isn‘t it?”

60 votes required under current senate rules.
All Republicans vote yes.
All but 3 Democrats vote no.
Vote fails.
Government stays shut down.

Likely not enough votes for a rule change. Would Democrats want the rule change? I don’t believe so.

Yep, some farmers are finally upset with him, and some of the independents who voted for him, but not enough.

The Dems aren't offering an alternative, that the GOP doesn't have much of the center trained to recoil from. Fox Noise has trained so many people to instinctively run away from anyone they can label as a "socialist", or a "commie", or a "DEI hire". What do the Dems have: a non-white woman, a gay guy, an obese guy. Whitmer has been OK in Michigan, but she's not a man, therefore "DEI hire" to the GOP. Newsom may look OK, but he has the worst baggage: an ex-wife that snuggles with Trump Jr. Just the fact that he married that psycho makes me wonder about his judgement. Can you imagine the garbage she would spew about him in their private life? How about the Mayor of Detroit? Sort of short, a bit pudgy, and bald, but the city's turn around can't be denied. For the first time, since the 50s, Detroit's population is increasing. Real estate values have soared. But he's running as an independent, for Gov, which will split the Dem vote, which will put a MAGA in Lansing. The MAGA win will be blamed on Duggan, and he won't be able to show his face in a Dem convention again.

Where is the person who can really get the mob whipped up, like Bernie did in 2016?

Steve
