You know it’s bad when the Dept of Labor says immigration raids are "threatening the stability of domestic food production and prices for US consumers."

"The US Labor Department is sounding a stark warning that the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown has devastated the ranks of agricultural workers and now may threaten the food supply."

"The near total cessation of the inflow of immigrants," the DOL document says, "combined with the lack of an available legal workforce" is "threatening the stability of domestic food production and prices for US consumers." Without swift action, it continues, "agricultural employers will be unable to maintain operations and the nation’s food supply will be at risk."

"Consumers — aka voters — are worried too. In a Pew Research Center survey conducted in late September, 65% of Americans said they were “very concerned” about the price of food and consumer goods. Both grocery prices and restaurant prices have risen since Trump took office."

"Beth Ford, CEO of Land O’Lakes — the massive, Minnesota-based dairy company — and chair of the National Business Roundtable’s immigration committee, says American farmers face a labor shortage so critical, that unless it is addressed, it could be a black swan event."

Remember this lie, one of thousands?..
"Very simple word, groceries. Like almost nobody -- you know, who uses the word? I started using the word -- the groceries.
When you buy apples, when you buy bacon, when you buy eggs, they would double and triple the price over a short period of time, and I won an election based on that.
We're going to bring those prices way down." ~Donald Trump

How in the world do normal people, the MAGA crowd included, find any way to identify with this out of touch, silver-spoon baby man?

I heard him doing a press conference, maybe on AF1, and he said that only beef prices were high and Argentinian would be selling us cheap beef because of our bailout or some other nonsense.

From the Labor Department report:

Despite rising wages, there is no indication that unemployed or marginally attached U.S. workers are entering the agricultural labor force in meaningful numbers.

Gee, who'd a thunk?

Predictable. In fact, this board predicted it. Like it or not, we are dependent on migrant (sometimes illegal) labor for much of our food supply. Get rid of that labor force, and harvest becomes problematic, and prices go up.

For years, Dems have wanted to fix that problem (well, most of them). Reps haven't wanted to do anything but deport them. Creating a bracero-like program continues to be anathema to them. So, their constituents are going to get whacked in the wallet at the grocery store. I'm sure somehow they'll contort it to blame Dems.

But it does seem like a good campaign issue: rising food prices. I'm just not sure MAGA can accept the root-cause (i.e. deporting everyone), and the solution (i.e. NOT deporting everyone, and creating a migrant worker visa system).

"Mr. Groceries", Donny, says the only thing that has gone up in price is meat...everything else is DOWN! Wahoo.

Non-MAGA people know better. They see their bills. MAGA (likely) will take his word for it, even though they can see their own bills, too. They have "faith" in him.

The new MAGA mantra is that the higher grocery prices are a patriotic sacrifice me must make for the good of America because Trump is right about everything.

So shut up and pay up for that slab of Argentine select sirloin (choice and prime gets shipped to Europe and Asia).
