President-elect Donald Trump has named Pete Hegseth, an Army veteran and Fox News host, as his choice for secretary of defense and John Ratcliffe, a hawkish former House lawmaker, to lead the Central Intelligence Agency, continuing his trend of placing loyalists in key positions.WSJ

I'm waiting to hear the howls of protest from the right for the way Trump is weaponizing the government and filling the Deep State with whacko cronies.

President-elect Donald J. Trump on Tuesday chose Pete Hegseth, a Fox News host and veteran of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, to be his next defense secretary, elevating a television ally to run the Pentagon and lead 1.3 million active-duty troops.
The choice of Mr. Hegseth was outside the norm of the traditional defense secretary. But he was a dedicated supporter of Mr. Trump during his first term, defending his interactions with the North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, embracing his “America First” agenda of trying to withdraw U.S. troops from abroad and energetically taking up the cause of combat veterans accused of war crimes. NYT
"The choice of Mr. Hegseth was outside the norm of the traditional defense secretary."
I think that is putting it mildly.

I agree with you there. Of all his picks, this one is the most puzzling. Hegseth is a long time and well respected conservative, patriotic and proud, degrees from Princeton and Harvard, and an Army veteran with a Bronze star and served in Iraq and Afghanistan.
But to be SecDev, wow! I would expect that person to have had a long career of successful executive experience. I can only rationalize that Trump wanted a complete outsider with no allegiances to the Pentagon so as to work more effectively with DOGE to reform the Defense Departments moribund acquisition and funding processes. But I don't see Hegseth providing much in the way of intricate military insights and advice into dealing with our adversaries.

Not puzzling at all. See previous thread.

……….whose loyalty was to Trump, above all ele.
Makes it a lot easier when the top guy at the Pentagon is on board with the program.

I love it how when democrats win, they get to implement their agenda.
When Republicans win, they're supposed to also implement the democrat agenda.
Makes you think folks don't really understand the point of elections...like, at all.
