suspend the federal gas tax

In 2008, there was a lot of chatter about suspending the fuel tax. The Congressman I had at that time, actually did reach out to Proles for input. I received a robocall from him, inviting me to call his office in Livonia to provide input. I called the office, and told the staffer how wrongheaded that is. Fuel taxes pay for road maintenance. Suspending the tax will not make the potholes go away on their own. Roads will only become more dilapidated. Anyone living in Michigan, can see the effect of decades of underfunding road maintenance, to provide one group or another with another tax cut.

and you have a fiscal nightmare growing (for some ever-closer future generation to deal with).

[censored} said it out loud, several weeks ago: words to the effect "cancel child care, Medicare, and Medicaid, to pay for the war". This is, of course, what the "starve the beast" crowd has wanted to do for years. Not surprisingly, my reply is [censored]
