convince rw to continue to post and to ignore the kaka roaches and fruitcakes who post on every board but he had enough and moved on.

Regardless, extending this situation to a general life principle, with rare exceptions, it's never a good idea to make a grand "I am burning this bridge" announcement. Whatever the offending situation is, just take a break from it. Naturally and inevitably you will cool down over time. You can then choose to return, or not. Either way, there is nothing to be gained by a public announcement.

Zooming out to an even more general principle. Irreversible decisions should be made only after very careful and long deliberation. Whereas reversible decisions can be made much more frequently and quickly. If a reversible decision turns out to be a mistake, you can always change course and in the process you would have learned something new.
