So, no threat of invasion. No threat of tariffs. So, what did he gain for two weeks of drama?
Let me say that I think this was insanely dumb, but what he gained is probing the opportunity that Denmark and the EU would agree to give up Greenland in order to avoid a risk to the NATO alliance.
You can't get more than you ask for. If you ask for 80, you won't get more than 80. If you ask for 100, even if you think they'll only give you 80, then you might get more than 80. You don't know until you ask - and insist really, really hard.
It's dumb, of course, insisting on something like this ends up causing damage. But I don't think Trump sees it that way. He thinks he's awesome, so no one could possibly get upset about all this Greenland stuff - unless they're just inveterate Trump haters. He demanded the U.S. own Greenland, they were serious about saying no, so he let it go. They should be thanking him for saving NATO by not insisting on what he and the U.S. were obviously entitled to! Everyone's friends now, right? Right?

Steve203: Trump tariffs live updates: Trump calls off tariffs on Europe over Greenland after reaching deal 'framework'
He actually said, "We have a concept of a deal."
This sounds like nonsense.
The Pedophile Protector: "We have a concept of a deal. I think it's gonna be a very good deal for the United States. Also for them. And we're gonna work together on something having to do with the arctic as a whole, but also Greenland. And it has to do with the security and other things."

He gained most people forgetting about the Epstein files. And even those who haven't forgotten, treating that issue as water under the bridge.

There’s a hilariously bad assumption underlying this.
You’re assuming that when this all started Trump asked
For something completely unreasonable and crazy.
But what if all he wanted was the Golden Dome and the Danes said no?
Changes things, would you say?

Why on earth would they say no?
And in what world could that have happened and Trump wouldn't have immediately been on Truth Social telling everyone about the perfidy of the Danes as justification for whatever he's doing?

Fascinating question, isn’t it?
No, it's not. Again, there's no plausible scenario where Trump would have asked them and not scream to the world if they said no.
So they didn't say no. Either he asked them and they said yes, or more likely didn't ask them (because they would have said yes, and that would have undercut his case for trying to own Greenland for other reasons).
There is no chance whatsoever that he asked and was turned down. And if I were a betting man, I'd guess he never asked.

I agree, with your take on the self-view of Trump the Perfect. In the line of high office seeking whiners we have suffered, in recent decades, he is the loudest, most all-encompassing, self-entitled, whiner of them all.
It's nice to see someone, other than China, stand up to him.

The man will literally repost texts he receives from heads of state. He's shown absolutely zero restraint in spraying the wall with every possible excuse why Greenland should be given to the U.S., from Chinese warships to the Golden Dome to resentment over the Peace Prize to the absence of any documentary evidence for Denmark's ownership to....well, to everything.
If Trump had gone to Denmark with a reasonable request, like having a few more military installations to install the Golden Dome, and they had said "no" there is no effing way he wouldn't have screamed that to the rooftops! He would have had every member of his national security team, from Rubio on down, hitting the news circuit to decry Danish stubbornness.
This isn't about us being in the room - it's about having even the slightest awareness of how Trump conducts these types of efforts. There is zero chance that if the Danes had balked him this way, he would have kept mum about it and never brought it up. Since he didn't say that, we know to a near-certainty that they did not.

Oh not at all! Asking to take control of another country is a perfectly reasonable thing to do.
"We can do this the easy way... or we can do this the hard way" says he.....
But what if all he wanted was the Golden Dome and the Danes said no?

Attention for himself. A metric shit-ton of attention.
And a distraction from the Epstein files and his falling approval ratings.

Golden Dome is a fictional system, just as Ronald Reagan's Star Wars was. It's not happening in Trump's lifetime.

Nothing more than what agreements have allowed for decades.
Except now Trump has managed to torpedo our relationships with Europe.
It will be fascinating to watch this travesty being spun as some sort of “win”.

That would be this world. “Perfidy” isn’t in his vocabulary. So he can’t talk about the perfidy of the Danes on any platform.

"So, no threat of invasion. No threat of tariffs. So, what did he gain for two weeks of drama?" - Steve
He personally got a ton of attention for himself. He was also able to put pressure on the Nobel Committee so maybe next year they cave to his craziness.
As for what else that came out of this, Russia and China both took a lot of pleasure at seeing more distrust spread between the U.S. and NATO. It made their lives much easier. I am sure that was part of Trump's intent.
