Yep. Even as a kid, that hymn always seemed at odds with religion of peace and love.

Especially, the third verse, all about conformity. According to the web page, these lyrics were taken from a Baptist hymnal.

Like a mighty army
moves the church of God;
Brothers, we are treading
where the saints have trod;
We are not divided;
all one body we,
One in hope and doctrine,
one in charity.
