I keep screaming into the void (on Bluesky) that this is a waste of time. There is no new bill needed to do what is already covered by existing law. The speaker of the House anticipated this and engineered a preposterous resolution that allows him to prevent a vote in the House to cancel Trump's emergency declaration. The Senate already passed such a resolution, and it is in Mike Johnson's hands to simply call a vote, which would undoubtedly pass, to remove the president's tariff authority. He simply will not do it. The new Senate bill is DOA. It would need a 2/3 majority in both the Senate and the House to override a presidential veto. It is nothing more than political theater.

I suppose there’s the possibility that the house could remove speaker Johnson. I don’t know if there are enough Republicans in the house who are more terrified of their voters than they are of the president, but we need to be screaming at them. I’m calling my ridiculous maga Congress critter constantly, but he’s all in on trump and the tariffs still. He’s on the stupid Doge oversight committee so he’s deep into the idiocy.

Well, in the sense that it likely won't work, yes.
But one can be more generous. Just because something is almost certain not to work doesn't mean attempting it is just posturing. It could be viewed by some as a good faith, albeit long shot, attempt to govern prudently.
