Last night's monologue was exceptionally good, but in particular his discussion of guns was quite interesting. It appears that MAGA is switching sides on guns. They're pointing to the gun that Pretti was carrying - legally carrying, including a concealed weapon permit - as the reason he was shot. Now anyone who has seen the videos of the incident knows this is nothing more than a lie. Pretti was disarmed before he was shot. But that doesn't stop the Trump admin spin machine from saying that carrying a gun was the problem.

I'm just waiting for the NRA to take note of this change in policy.

Here's the video of Stewart. I've cued it up to the gun segment, but I'd recommend the whole things for your education and enjoyment.

Wait no longer. They’ve spoken against the hypocrisy.

They’ve spoken against the hypocrisy.

Not very convincingly.

the NRA said: "As there is with any officer-involved shooting, there will be a robust and comprehensive investigation that takes place to determine if the use of force was justified.

Quite the optimists, those NRA spokespersons. "A robust and comprehensive investigation"??? What have they been smoking? State police have been shut out of the investigation into the Good shooting, and are being slow-walked on the Pretti shooting. The only thing "robust and comprehensive" will be the coverup and whitewashing of the facts.

Yeah. Imagine one day they actually make good on their long-held premise to fight tyranny. Wait,

Gun Owners of America, a non-profit lobbying organization, also criticized that claim from Essayli – who is now an acting first assistant US attorney for California’s central federal district court. “Federal agents are not ‘highly likely’ to be ‘legally justified’ in ‘shooting’ concealed carry licensees who approach while lawfully carrying a firearm,” the group posted. It added that the US constitution’s second amendment “protects Americans’ right to bear arms while protesting – a right the federal government must not infringe upon.”

The press office of California’s governor, Gavin Newsom, responded to the NRA’s criticism of Essayli, saying on social media, “Wow. Even the NRA thinks Trump’s [justice department] stooge in California has gone too far for claiming federal agents were ‘legally justified’ to kill Alex Pretti.” Newsom’s press office added: “Your position is truly horrible when even the NRA calls you out.”

dont doubt this remains your granpa's NRA.
they would love to see booming sales, be it for gov-on-citizen or citizen-on-citizen action.

the fact that pretti legally carried, but did not utilize his gun for self-defense, is simply bad publicity.
please tell NRA, how did this help him?
(nevermind the silly problem that it will always be too late unless one is the instigator)

No. It's not my grandpa's NRA and it isn't my NRA. My NRA was the old sportsman NRA, that vanished in my twenties and went full pry my gun out of my dead hands.

well, i have a friend who is a granpa before 60, so it's certainly his NRA.

despite a relatively low gun homicide rate, guns are very popular in blue MN.
i wonder when enough is enough, and citizens that feel threatened act.
and who will the NRA support then?

Duh !!

MN has a large variety rural area and many rural residents (just under 50% of total state population). PLUS a significant amount of hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, biking and more outdoors stuff. Many people in the large metro area have rural cabins to enjoy the "not in the city" living.

Funny thing, there ARE times when a weapon comes in useful--bear DO live out there. Now whoda thunk THAT? We know--and know what to do. One does NOT always need a gun.

It is knowing WHEN IT IS APPROPRIATE TO USE A GUN, not just SHOOTING AT EVERYTHING.
