Marķa Corina Machado turned up in Oslo today, after being in hiding in Venezuela for months. The BBC spoke with her tonight. Quite a stealthy trip, with several disguises along the way. Trump has repeatedly said the US has spooks all over Venezuela, so, almost incomprehensible they did not facilitate her escape from the country.

So, now she is out of the line of fire, with easy access to radio and TV to foment resistance to Maduro, and promote surrender to the US.

Marķa Corina Machado makes first public appearance in months in Oslo after Peace Prize win

Machado made the covert journey despite a travel ban, and has mostly laid low since Venezuela's disputed presidential election in 2024. She last appeared in public in January.

After her Peace Prize win, Machado made a point to praise US President Donald Trump, who is open about his own ambitions for the Peace Prize and is locked in ongoing military tension with Venezuela.

BRYAN STERN: No, not at all.
This was not a U.S.government mission.
We have not been paid by the U.S.government.
We haven't even gotten a thank-you note from the U.S.government.

Oh, sure it was. When the US embassy staffers were spirited out of Iran, all we heard about at the time, was the role Canada played in the operation. The CIA's role was not declassified for about 30 years, then dramatized in "Argo".

As someone observed years ago, when a couple CIA ops had been blown "we never hear about their really successful ops".
