This is a pre-print that has not gone through peer review. But, if it passes muster, is very fascinating. I know what they are talking about in general terms, but wasn't aware of the specifics of dimensionality. I'll highlight the key point, but it's a short read (and free).

This Hilbert space of potentially infinite dimensions, when it comes to quantum gravity in a closed universe, is one-dimensional. The crucial consequence of this, which is the reason for the footnote, is that such a universe cannot have an external observer.

So, if this pans-out, says that either the universe is not closed (very possible), or if it is then there is no god (external observer).
