Russia, Russia, Russia. The email lady was right: with Trump, all roads lead to Russia.
In his readout from his call today with Daddy Putin, Mad King Donald reported that they had a "good conversation, but not a conversation that will lead to immediate Peace" (here's my shocked face: and that Putin told him "he will have to respond to the recent attack on the airfields."
Mad King Donald did not suggest that retaliation would lead to American sanctions against Russia or that America would consider retaliation a trigger for America to send arms to Ukraine... because Mad King Donald does not see Russia as an adversary in Ukraine but as an ally in his desire to cement a deal to keep nuclear weapons out of Iran, noting that "President Putin suggested that he will participate in the discussions with Iran and that he could, perhaps, be helpful in getting this brought to a rapid conclusion."
Well, now, it's not like anyone with an IQ above the average Trump White House sycophant ever thought Mad King Donald would impose new sanctions on the man with the Pee Pee tape, right?
Oh wait, alleged Pee Pee tape.
Anyway, any hope that Mad King Donald would impose sanctions on Russia to bring an end to its invasion of Ukraine, much like Robert Palmer and Alison Krause sang, is pretty much Gone, Gone Gone, Done Moved On.

Q : what does trump\gabbard\hegseth call the destruction of russian bombers used for civilian and infrastructure terrorism?
A : ukraine escalation
on a more serious strategic note, ukraine has achieved something here no amount of money, EU support, nor trump bravado could ever accomplish.
they have crippled 1 leg of the russian nuclear delivery triad, and even the viability of conventional bomber delivery against any european nation.
with no NATO nor UN lives lost.

insightful note from zeihan.
2 of the most distant 'droned' air bases are too far to bomb ukraine. these bases are even marginal backups to battle nato.
they were strategically located by russia to deploy over the pole, and not against canada.
asking myself why ukraine would use its scarce resources to do this...
all rational scenarios are quite optimistic...but a very worthy gamble.
discuss.

Doesn’t matter where the planes are located. They can be used against Ukraine. Sure, they might have to move to a different base first. So of course they are a target Ukraine would want to hit.
Just as important is the psychological effect of hitting targets far from Ukraine. Being a one time attack, you have to go for as many targets as you can, because there is no second chance. And a coordinated attack on multiple wide spread targets heightens the psychological effect.

could be that planes would be moved if most planes on russia's western flank bases were junked.
it is likely some western bases would be more difficult to attack.
but these 2 distant bases have long existed solely to deploy against america, and it was an intentional message partly to trump.
first level thinking had me wonder why help trump, who not only backs putin with words and attempts to reduce sanctions, but who actually cutoff supplies and intelligence support, thus triggering greater battleline aggression against ukraine.
- ukraine was deemed weak and cardless by trump, but can flex. they just accomplished something america has never been able to accomplish in decades of cold\proxy wars, despite the specific threat profile to america.
- ukraine has encountered enough american political and military staff that would realize the unique impact and value of this strike, not for themselves, but for america's benefit. they are gambling that growing this kind of support with real action can counter the unholy trump\MAGA\putin alliance.
i am much more optimistic about the latter point, as trump is less impressed without his personal benefit.
